High Reliability and High Efficiency Electrical Bonding Technology for External Floating Roof Tanks

The Dynamic By-Pass Conductor (DBC) offers a reliable positive bond for External Floating Roof Tanks (EFRTs) for the Oil & Gas and Chemical industries. The DBC delivers efficient electrical bonding between the floating roof and the tank shell, providing a low-impedance channel to significantly reduce explosion risks relating to bound charge and direct lightning strike effects.

Next-generation of EFRT Grounding By-Pass Conductor

Improved design for better operational and personnel safety, greater lightning discharge efficiency and high durability. Engineered to significantly reduce explosive hazard risk to EFRT from Lightning Bound Charge and Direct Strike effects. Requires virtually no upkeep upon installation.

Designed for Corrosive Environment

Corrosion-resistant polymer-based casing, stainless steel spring and solid bonding tape construction, incorporating rotary damper and brake for upgraded personnel safety.

Effective protection against lightning

  • The DBC brings significant upgrades to a solution that has been field-tested and proven effective for over 20-years. Product reliability, durability and safety has been significantly upgraded.
  • Conventional bypass conductors may not fully account for conductor slack. The conductor coils randomly on itself, resulting in a high-impedance situation on the tank roof. The DBC avoids this by neatly retracting any conductor slack back into its protective casing, thereby reducing conductor length and maintaining lowest-impedance at all times.
  • The DBC’s design protects EFRTs by ensuring a strong electrical bond which effectively subdues sustained arcs.

Durability and Safety

  • The DBC is designed to maximize product longevity in the highly corrosive hydrogen sulphide (H2S) environment.
  • A solid tape design replaces braided wires for enhanced conductivity and prolonged service life. The Nickel coated solid tape material provides excellent strength and corrosion resistance for longer term reliability.
  • Additional safety feature of rotary damper and braking system ensure the solid tape is always retracted at a measured rate (in the event of tape breakage or disconnected end straps).

Easy to deploy and maintain

  • The main unit of the DBC is enclosed in a highly weather resistant polymer-based casing for easy transportation and deployment.
  • The base unit of the DBC features a modular design that allows for flexible installation options addressing various EFRT mounting requirements.
  • Solid tape is field-replaceable, allowing for on-site maintenance without the cost and delay of shipping the DBC to a service center.
